I'm back in the Valley staying at the cottage and just wanted to send a quick "Seasons Greetings" to you and the whole Matrix Research Foundation crew.

Reflecting back on the events of this year -as one does around this time- I have to say that the welcome you and the group extended to Daniel, Julia, and I over Thanksgiving was definitely a big highlight.

Did you know that Matrix Research Foundation was incorporated in 1972 but that The Farm as we know it was acquired in 1974 from the original founders? Thus, 2014 is an anniversary of sorts -- 40 years. I've scanned the first set of Minutes from September 1974 and placed on the Minutes portion of the website.

Echo chamber aka blog. Should we make this blog open to the public and let outsiders come in, post offensive things, stir the pot, share memories? (can always delete posts if we want to)

We made it members/heirs only so we could have private conversations ... but we're not. So perhaps the private stuff could be done by email and this could be a public forum where old rochdalians can come and post if they want to?

Food for thought ...

Congratulations to Barack Obama. In historic presidential elections of the Rochdale Farm kind, Steve Smock was elected President on September 14, 1974. He was running against N. Greig, C. Johnson, J. Boldizar and J. Taylor [McVaugh]. His acceptance speech: "I promise to do as much as possible for this farm as I can possibly do by doing nothing, which is what I was elected to do."

As the caretakers of a prime piece of unspoiled swampland, I was thinking that the Rochdale website could take part in an action planned for June 4th, when you change your homepage (or put up a temporary splash page actually) to black with a message of solidarity against the Omnibus Bill, and especially it's destruction of environmental protections.

To our GTA rochdale farmers, please note:

You have likely heard of the death of Christopher Roland Michener, son of Joseph and Jeanne Michener, on June 25th at the age of 62.

You are invited to join family and friends for an interment ceremony at the Michener plot in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 1st, to remember Chris and to celebrate his life.

Following a battle with cancer, Chris, a notable naturalist and environmentalist, passed away pea.....

Thanks to all of you who supported and visited at the time of Chris' death. He was very much a part of our farm family and will really be missed around the camp fire and on the volleyball court. When I have a free moment, I will post his obituary on here.
